I should begin with an apology

For an apology is in order

Gentle soul, gentle heart

The only one I know I’ve hurt

I should tell you now

For I didn’t then

Your patience and tenderness

Have always stayed with me

I should seek more clearly

For the kindness you possess

Perhaps my rocky path

Would be easier to follow

I should give you more credit

For credit is due
